Linda Geiger: November Featured Artist at Studios of Cocoa Beach
Linda Geiger is the Featured Artist for November at the Studios of Cocoa Beach, 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach. Linda Cocoa Beach began her career as a retail visual merchandiser, then as a graphic artist and owner of Bright Ideas Studio. As demand for graphic design slowed, Linda used her training in sewing and fabric manipulation to create soft sculptured art dolls, art quilts, garments and accessories.
Linda grew up in a loving home in Baltimore where she was inspired by her mom who enjoyed sewing and crafts and a dad who enjoyed wood crafting and gardening. Her “financially challenged” family taught her the value of using what was on hand and what could be recycled. By the time she was in high school Linda was making most of her own clothing. Now her fiber art incorporates materials that have been “repurposed.”Scraps of hand-dyed fabric, vintage buttons, and even dryer lint (yes, dryer lint!) ,unusual fabrics scraps from thrift stores clothing, and found embellishments are all used to create one of a kind fiber art
Linda is a member of Brevard Cultural Alliance, the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts, Seams Unique Fiber Artists, Studio Art Quilters Association (SAQA), and Surface Design Association (SDA). Her work has been published in Art Doll Quarterly and Soft Dolls and Animals magazine, and she has won several awards in local gallery exhibitions.
