Like mother, like daughter? This is true of the two artists chosen to be featured artists for the month of June at the Studios of Cocoa Beach. Linnea and Samantha Reid are both artists. Linnea has been painting since the 70’s when she studied with R.L. Lewis, one of the original Florida Highwaymen..
Later she took classes at Eastern Florida State College (then BCC) where one of her fellow students was her daughter Samantha. Sam now has a degree in art education and teaches 3D art at Titusville High.
Linnea paints with oils, sometimes on wooden fence planks. Her subjects include nature, nautical, people and wildlife, including mermaids. “My inspiration for the mermaids is the sweet faces of my daughters and granddaughters.”
Sam also paints, in acrylics, and often on the boots of queen palms, where she creates whimsical faces, or turns them into sculptures. She loves crafting three dimensional art using clay, paper mache, and silicone rubber, sometimes fashioning costumes or eccentric attire.
A free drawing for an artwork from each . a wood plank of daises from Linnea and a small turtle sculpture from Samantha, will take place on Friday, June 22, 2018 during the opening reception for the Studios’ exhibit the “Out of Towners”.
The Reid’s art work can be seen daily at the Studios of Cocoa Beach, 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach. The Studio is open Monday and Tuesday 10:30am-3:30 pm, Wednesday through Saturday 10:30 am-8pm and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm.
