Exhibit Dates: May 1-27, 2018
A Chip Off the Old Block closes on Sunday afternoon, May 27, at Fifth Avenue Art Gallery. This unusual exhibit challenged member artists to find a small area of a past work of art and create a new piece using, according to the artist, the most exciting, most interesting, or most neglected section of their art. Each new work is 11 x 14" at its final size and is hung alongside the original art. The 'chip' could be magnified or minimized, simplified or detailed. Colors and medium might also have been altered. The resulting works were as varied as all the members of the gallery. There are traditional portraits, representational pieces, and abstract pieces. There is even a sculptural piece by Ellen Pavlakos mirroring one of her large bronzes.
Fifth Avenue Art Gallery is located in the Eau Gallie Arts District in Melbourne, FL. All events are open and free to the public.
