Preoccupation, a solo show by Vanessa Bates at Fifth Avenue Art Gallery in June

Fifth Avenue Art Gallery is proud to announce Preoccupation, a solo show by 2017 100% Pure Florida winner, Vanessa Bates. The exhibit will open on May 29 and run through June 30. On the evening of First Friday, June 1, there will be an opening reception. Come between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm for light refreshments to meet Vanessa and learn more of her process and work.

Vanessa employs a sharp sense of humor and irony in her work leading the viewer on a delightful adventure in color and message. She describes her work this way, “The subject matter itself is often chosen for humor, expressed either as visual irony or lighthearted observation.”

Bates began her career as a graphic designer and illustrator but gravitated towards fine art as her experimentation in color drifted outside the gamut possible with traditional printing techniques. She says of her work, “Early illustration lessons still influence my art as each work has a simple focus and studied use of color and light to direct attention to the subject of the piece.” Vanessa works in both acrylic and digital with equal fluency. This will be an exhibit you will not want to miss.

Fifth Avenue Art Gallery is located in the Eau Gallie Arts District in Melbourne, FL. All events are free and open to the public.
