The Studios of Cocoa Beach announces the featured artist for the month of February, Rockledge painter Phyllis Shipley. Phyllis is an award winning acrylic and watercolor artist with 30 years fine art experience. A native of Tennessee, she began her art education at East Tennessee State and then traveled through the US, Europe and Central America gathering inspiration and taking workshops with renowned artists. Phyllis owned a gallery in Tennessee and now has work on display in several states. She was recently included in Art Basel, an international show in Miami, and will be showing at a New York gallery this spring.
Phyllis is famous for her brilliant colors; especially in her depiction of flowers which hark back to childhood gardens which “instilled in me a feeling of peace and comfort and a love of color.” Her music background inspires her jazz paintings where colors, keyboards and instruments dance across the canvas.
A print of her painting “Outburst” will be given away on Friday, February 23rd in a drawing during the Studios opening reception for it’s exhibit “A Painter’s Pursuit”
Phyllis Shipley’s work can be seen daily at the Studios of Cocoa Beach, 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach. The nonprofit gallery features 25 artists and offers a full schedule of workshops in a variety of techniques for both adults and children. The Studio is open Monday and Tuesday 10:30am-3:30 pm, Wednesday through Saturday 10:30 am-8pm and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm.
