JULY 2017 FEATURED ARTIST AT
Art and Antique – CECELIA BURROWS
“ON A ROAD OF WHAT MOVES ME”
According to Cecelia Burrows one only needs the love and pursuit of art to begin a journey. Her journey started with gifted family members to support her. Her dad even encouraged her to “observe the colors of the day”, as they were only here for that moment. What an amazing start for someone today recalls large exposure to art in all forms. She was called on to do art projects of all sorts and sizes at her school and the Pittsburgh Mercy Hospital and all the many occasions observed at her Parochial school. The nuns encouraged her to try various mediums, sharing their knowledge and tools. She recalls helping to design a logo for sweatshirts, play programs and something for that “big” dance. Cecelia however did not take the advice of her art teacher to pursue a scholarship for art as it was not thought of as a “sustaining” career at that time. A teacher or nurse was the advice to young girls in the 60’s!!!
Cecelia took a few courses at a neighboring college during the era of free form and wild colors and her realistic style was unacceptable and frowned upon, so again, she did her OWN THING! After such things as life happens, work, family and a bout with health issues in 2001 she has moved back to her love of ART. She enjoys the experimentation and creativity of art and having had the influence of a few area Artists that she admires continues to pursue her love of art. Her interests in oils, watercolors and acrylics prove that it is never too late to start again. Who knows what else Cecelia may tackle on this pleasant path now that she is finally doing her own thing!
The exhibit will hang from Friday, July 7 – Monday, July 31st at the Gallery located at 1429 Highland Ave. Melbourne. Florida. 32935. 321-253-5553
