Wednesdays-A Month With Calder
May 3rd, 10th &

Alexander Calder
experimented with Kinetic art through the creation of two different types of
sculpture: the mobile and the stabile. These works were composed of delicately
balanced components that respond to air currents. Using wire and foam sheets,
students will create a “Stabile” and “Mobile” in the style of Alexander Calder.

Thursdays-Young Masters- Fauvism
May 4th, 11th &
18th
Sessions will focus on
the era after the Post-Impressionism. They will use Intense color to describe
light and space and as a means of communicating emotional state. The Fauvism
period quickly evolved, for many artists into Cubism. Students will learn how
Cubism began to look at subjects in new ways in an effort to depict
three-dimensions on a flat canvas. Along
with various artist of this style, students will create paintings in the manner
of:

Fridays-Pop Art

Andy Warhol is most famous for
taking the simple and common everyday item or image and raise it to fine art,
Pop Art. He worked with portraits and
the idea of repetition and pattern in composition. Students will create a self-portraits
in the style of Warhol using a mix-media of photographs and paint
Roy Lichtenstein is an American Pop
Artists Lichtenstein liked to represent emotional matters in an impersonal
manner. He also based his artwork on existing comics and recreating small
elements in a large (huge) scale. Students will complete a self portrait in the
style of Lichtenstein.
Romero Britto is a Brazilian neo-pop
artist. He combines elements of cubism, pop art and graffiti painting in his
work, using vibrant colors and bold patterns as an expression of hope and
happiness. Students will create a colorful work of art in the style of Britto, using
artists markers and paints.

Fused Glass with Kathy Ero - Beginners
May 21st 12:30pm-3:30pm

Participants will be introduced to the
fused glass process. The focus will be
on the proper operation and safety when using a glass kiln. In addition, students will participate in
glass cutting, assembly, decorating and fusing procedures.
Each student will create a minimum of
one jewelry object by fusing pieces of colored and dichroic glass.
Kathy is a silver, enamel and glass artist
based in Melbourne Beach. Her newest
jewelry pieces incorporate techniques such as fused glass, lampwork glass,
mordant etching, cold connections, chain maille, wire wrapping, lapidary,
sterling silver lost wax/organic botanical casting, and silversmithing. She is an active member of the Canaveral
Mineral and Gem Society and Strawbridge Art League.
Class is limited to four.

Three Evenings’ Landscape with
Lynda Kodwyck – All abilities
Wednesdays, May
10, 17, and 24th 5:30pm - 8:00pm.
$100 includes
11X14 canvas.
Would you like to spend an early
evening in Melbourne Beach painting en plein air? Then join us for an outdoor
landscape painting experience. Working with a variety of media along the Indian
River Lagoon, we will explore ways of capturing the qualities of light, color,
and atmosphere while keeping an eye on composition. Emphasis will be on seeing
through to the underlying elements of values and mass that provide the
foundation for color, light, and final details.
Adults all abilities with some
experience required. You bring oils or acrylics, brushes,
etc. A supplies’ list will be provided upon enrollment
Lynda is a multi-disciplined “fine
arts” artist specializing in seascapes, plein air, and children’s
portraits. Her work and bio can be seen at www.lyndakodwyckartist.com. Class
is limited to six and pre-registration is required.
