22rd Annual Watercolor Show - “Splash of Watercolor”

by Frank Spino
Melbourne, FL – The Brevard Watercolor Society’s 22nd Annual Watercolor show, “Splash of Watercolor”, will be held Saturday and Sunday, February 18-19, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This year’s fine art exhibition will take place at the Azan Shrine Temple, 1591 W. Eau Gallie Boulevard, Melbourne, FL.  Admission and parking are free.

Diane Harmon, President of the Brevard Watercolor Society, said “Our annual “Splash” shows draw several thousand art lovers of all ages.  Come join us!”  “Splash of Watercolor” will feature the largest exhibit and sale of watercolor paintings in Brevard County.  Nearly 100 local artists, many who have state and nationally-acclaimed works, will be represented at the show.

Original, framed artwork will be available for sale in the main hall.  In the artists’ Marketplace, prints, cards, and unframed originals will also be available for sale.  Ongoing activities include raffle baskets, silent auction, live music, and heart-healthy refreshments served in the bistro.  A special section of the show will feature paintings created by many of the students taking on-going classes taught by a number of BWS members.

Several demonstration events are scheduled during the “Splash of Watercolor” weekend show.  All are entertaining and educational (and sometimes hilarious) and include:

  • 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday, watercolor demonstrations by award winning members of the Brevard Watercolor Society
  • 11:00 am - 12:30 pm, Saturday, “Paint Around”, watch as 5 award-winning, local artists start individual paintings and then rotate to paint on each other’s paintings until completed.

The Brevard Watercolor Society was established in 1995 and has nearly 200 members.  BWS partners with Brevard County organizations and is an active member of the Brevard Cultural Alliance.  BWS is dedicated to the beauty of watercolor painting and enriching the quality of life in our community through workshops, education, and exhibitions.
