Visions of Italy with art work by Phyllis Shipley at Fifth Avenue Art Gallery

Exhibit dates: October 3-30, 2016

Fifth Avenue Art Gallery is proud to host Visions of Italy, art work by gallery member Phyllis Shipley, during the month of October. The First Friday opening reception for this exhibit will be on October 7, from 5:30 pm through 8:30 pm. Phyllis will be present to discuss her work, her methods and her enthusiasm for creating art.

Phyllis has been producing fine art for the past thirty years and has been a gallery owner, an art show participant and award winner, and a continuing student in the details of water color and acrylics. A native of Johnson City, Tennessee, she uses her intuition to create loose and flowing colors with a musical fluidity of expression. Phyllis began painting in the early 1980’s. After years of playing and teaching music with the organ and piano, raising children, and a successful career as a purchasing executive with a major chemical corporation, the time was right to pursue her dream and passion. Painting for her is like a musical score, expressing emotion and beauty with the brush as the melody rings in our ears.

Shipley is driven by questions about life; what is it, why do we love, how are we developing our destiny? She is searching for whatever it is that is charting our course. Her paintings begin with pouring, glazing or washes of color. As she manipulates the paint, an image begins to develop. “I strive to ‘get out of the way and let spirit take control’ (a quote given to me many years ago when I was frustrated with details)”, says Shipley.

She strives to provide a source of visual pleasure by using color to exert energy, life and excitement. When I can feel the 3 S’s (Senses, Suggestion, Symbols), I feel development and growth as an artist. She believes that life is not a problem to be solved, but a gift to be enjoyed. Her hope is to create art that is full of color, chaos and energy to bring joy, a zest for life, and excitement without constraint to all who view her work.
She is presently an exhibiting member at the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery and also currently an exhibiting artist at the newly opened Art Avenue Gallery located in Sarasota, Florida. She is further represented by the Liz-Beth Gallery of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Visions of Italy will run from October 3 through October 30. Fifth Avenue Art Gallery is located in the Eau Gallie Arts District in Melbourne, FL.
