“Birds of Hope” Art Exhibit Takes Flight at King Center July 25
Melbourne, FL – Birds of Hope, an art exhibit that showcases how natural and man-made flight have shaped the Space Coast, will be held July 25 – August 28 at the Harris Corporation Art Gallery in the Main Lobby of the King Center for the Performing Arts. The exhibit can be viewed by ticketed King Center guests attending main stage shows.
An artist’s reception and book signing will be held Thursday, August 11, from 5-7 p.m. in the King Center lobby, with light refreshments and a cash bar. The reception is FREE to the public. Everyone is invited.
The exhibit will feature 25 large-format, oil-on-silverprint images by local artist and photographer Lloyd Behrendt, spanning years of work capturing the rocket launches and wild birds that are an integral part of the area’s character.
The art collection formed the basis for a book by Behrendt, “Birds of Hope…A Primer for the Future,” available at Amazon Books.
“There’s no small irony in the fact that two such different types of ‘birds’ don’t just co-exist, but thrive, in the same place,” Behrendt said. “It says everything about our ability to advance technology while preserving the wild things that are part of Florida’s story.”
Behrendt works out of his studio in Malabar. He continues to shoot launches at the Cape, with more than 400 captured to date. He is working on his first novel, a story about the Space Coast. For more info about the exhibit, visit kingcenter.com or call (321) 433-5717.
