Rachel Thompson - I Am Color

Flagler’s Artist of the Year Showcases
Her Newest Works

FLAGLER BEACH, FL – On Saturday, May 7, popular Flagler County artist Rachel Thompson will be featured at Ocean Art Gallery in Flagler Beach from 5 to 8 pm during the Opening Reception of her month-long show “I AM COLOR.”

Thompson recently returned from a 14-day trip to Israel where she was an invited participant in the Israel Partnership’s Psalms Art Project. A number of artists throughout the Southeastern United States were partnered with an Israeli artist, studied a particular Psalm with them, and then followed their muse.

“Part of the purpose is not just to do an art exhibit together but to get to know each other and to make a relationship,” said Thompson, who applied to and was accepted into the program through the Jewish Federation of Jacksonville. Her Israel Psalm art, along with other artist’s part of this project, are currently on exhibit in Israel and will be exhibited in the Southeastern United States in early 2017.

Thompson, who formerly owned I AM ART/Rachel & Friends gallery in The Hammock until February 2016, wanted to concentrate more on her personal artistic development rather than business management. During transition, Thompson received the Flagler County’s Artist of the Year award by the Gargiulo Art Foundation, representation transpired by Ocean Art Gallery and she further agreed to provide curating assistance. Gallery owner Frank Gromling said, “Adding Rachel to our gallery is a major step in the planned expansion to become a nationally recognized art destination.”

Thompson’s I AM COLOR art show runs from May 7 through May 31. Her May 7th opening reception will feature her newest artwork in dual panel acrylic, which gives a dimensional effect where the viewer “sees through to” the art. Featured themes will be chakras and gemstones, the Phoenix, the female figure, plus sand and sea.

Adding to the opening reception activities and complimentary to Thompson’s themes, Flagler Beach artist Glenda Greenberg, whose sterling silver jewelry is represented by Ocean Art Gallery, will give a free presentation about chakras and gemstones at 3 pm in the gallery.
During the reception, Rachel will meet with guests and share her artistic technique. Light refreshments and live music will be available. As always, this is a free event to which everyone is invited.
