The Surrealist Games
at the Derek Gores Gallery
Instructor: Danielle Henn

Danielle is a teaching artist who loves to infuse the art making process with playful prompts, surprising materials, and, most importantly, total fearlessness.  She finds inspiration in childhood games, shadow play, blanket forts, and serendipity.

Some of her teaching mantras include...
“Make a mistake that surprises you.”
“Don’t work the life out of your art.”
“Find the magic and get out of its way.”
“Leave some things up to chance.”

The surrealists often played a game called “The Exquisite Corpse” which combines random heads, bodies, and feet to produce a surprising new creation.  In The Surrealist Games, we will use the process of “The Exquisite Corpse” as inspiration for visual surprises, improvised landscapes, and encounters with the strange, beautiful corners of our minds.

Danielle has her BA in Studio Art from Florida State University and is pursuing her MA in Art Education with the University of Florida.  Her research focuses on play as the origin of art making.
