Shared Pathways: Steven and Katherine Aimone will open on February 2, 2016 at Fifth Avenue Art Gallery in the Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne, FL. There will be an opening reception on First Friday, February 5, from 5:30 pm through 8:30 pm. Katherine and Steve will be present to meet, greet, and discuss their paintings. Both artists’ bodies of work are based upon internal work, communicated through abstract means.
Steve and Katherine met in DeLand, Florida, when she was director of the DeLand Museum of Art, and he was a working artist and instructor. They married in 2000 and formed Aimone Art Services in 2001. Today the couple maintains studios in Asheville, NC and on Mohegan Island, ME. They work and grow as artists, supporting one another in the pursuit of their dreams, aspirations, and goals.
Steven says about his work, “My work is visual poetry, speaking indirectly and metaphorically about the human experience. The paintings serve as gateways, affording access to complex, internal states of emotion, psyche, and spirit.” Steven’s work has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions in New York and elsewhere, and his paintings are represented in corporate and private collections.

Katherine says about her work: “My work is about experiencing beauty—that vulnerable state that is accessible each day, but often overlooked in our push to succeed and take care of practical concerns.” Her paintings were hung at the American Embassy in Moldova from 2010-14 through the Art in Embassies Program, and she had a solo exhibition in Asheville during 2015. She is currently organizing a national exhibition that opens in April for the new Greenville Creative Arts Center. Together with Dr. Nancy Hillis, she teaches workshops called Doing the Work of Your Life: Moving Beyond Fear in Abstract Art.
Steve, a nationally recognized painting teacher in both the US and Canada teaches the Master Series Workshop-Residences during January and February every year at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, FL. He also teaches in Asheville, Maine, and New Orleans. He is the author of the popular book, Expressive Drawing, published in 2010. Katherine’s company, ArtsWrite, provides professional writing for artists.
In an effort to explore painting together more deeply, the couple took a painting sabbatical from October through December of 2015 in Cortona, Italy, and this exhibition features some of their work created there.
Shared Pathways will run through February 28.
