Art Gallery of Viera is pleased to present Dij Pacarro as the featured artist for May. The opening reception of the 6th Anniversary Show at Art Gallery of Viera will be May 9, 2015 from 5:30-8 pm, and will also feature the unique and detailed fiber art of member artist, Dij Pacarro.
Dij Pacarro has been working with textiles and fibers most of her life. She took a quilt class in the 1990's and found her true passion. Beginning with traditional patterns, she soon branched out into her own designs and methods.
Dij is enthusiastic about her medium. In her own words: "Fiber provides a way for me to express myself artistically - I enjoy 'painting' with fabric and thread. I gravitate toward bright colors and am influenced by my love of nature and travel. I work with small bits of different fabrics to create dimension, fusing them in place and adding lots of stitching to give life and texture to each piece. It's labor intensive, but time flies as I lose myself in the joy of creating."
Dij grew up in Hawaii, moved to California, then to Florida, where she's been living in Brevard County with her husband, Rudy, for 14 years. She has been with Art Gallery of Viera since it's inception in 2009.
Dij has displayed her award winning work in galleries, quilt shows, and libraries throughout Brevard, and currently teaches classes at Quilts and Lace Quilt Shop in Melbourne.
Register to win one of Dij's unique ice dyed scarves at the reception on May 9th.
