Joe Campanellie of Campanellie's Portraits located in Palm Coast, Florida was recently named Diamond Photographer of the Year during the Professional Photographers of America's (PPA) 2014 International Photographic Competition. Campanellie's work will be on display at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee, Feb. 1-3, 2015. This International Photographic Exhibition is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention and expo for professional photographers.
Campanellie's image titled "Storm Warning", is a dramatic black & white photograph of the Flagler Beach pier. Photographed during a Nor'Easter, this image garnered a trophy for "Best In State" and was selected for PPA's International Loan Collection. The image will also be featured in an upcoming coffee table book as well as in an article of "Professional Photographer" magazine which will be available in January of 2015.
A panel of 45 eminent jurors selected the top photographs from nearly 5,000 total submitted entries. The level of the award is determined by how many of the four images entered, receive the highest possible honor: acceptance into the PPA Loan Collection—the "Best of the Best". Campanellie was named a Diamond Photographer of the Year, meaning that all four of his images were selected for the prestigious PPA Loan Collection.
"The Diamond Photographers are setting the bar for everyone else, says the chairman of the PPA Print Exhibition Committee. To land ONE image in the prestigious loan collection is impressive. To land all FOUR images in this elite category is amazing. In 2014, Campanellie was one of only 26 individuals world wide to attain this elite status out of some 1200 entrants. These Diamond Photographers of the Year are breathing rarified air, to be sure, representing only a very small percentage of the total contenders. For now, though, the Diamond Photographers of the Year have no competition. They are on a level all by themselves." This is Campanellie's third time as one of PPA's Diamond Photographers of the Year.
