Outlaw Pottery Classes



K-12 Art Teacher Pottery In-Service Workshop
Who says kids have all the fun over the summer? While school is out of session, teachers are invited to play in the clay at Outlaw Pottery School while learning new techniques to take back to school in the fall.
WHEN: 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Monday, July 7 - Friday, July 11, 2014
TUITION: $100 (non-refundable, pre-payment required)
COURSE: This week long summer camp has been designed for beginner and intermediate K-12 art teachers who want to expand their knowledge of pottery and/or earn in-service credits. Teachers will come away with project ideas and skills to incorporate into their classroom during the school year. Rosalie Outlaw, will teach projects using hand-building techniques such as slab, pinch, coil and sculpture. The workshop will also include clay stamp-making and utilization, textural enhancement techniques, advanced glaze projects, as well as tricks and tips to avoid warping, cracking and explosions. The week will end with a special Raku Pottery firing where teachers will be able to try glaze techniques on Raku pottery that they made the first day of class. Those pots will be fired before your eyes during the final session. (Teachers are responsible for following the in-service requirements from their schools.)

Eat It - Pottery Summer Camp for Kids
- An afternoon snack tastes so much better when you’re eating it out of your own stoneware pottery! Starting with a ball of fresh clay, participants will create their own ice cream bowl and stoneware pottery cup or mug using hand-building pottery techniques such as pinch, coil, slab and sculpture. Pottery will be glazed with lab-certified lead-free, non-toxic glazes and kiln fired so that all pottery will be food, dishwasher and microwave safe.
- Ages 7 to 16
- 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM (two days)
- Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26
- $60 (includes both days of instruction, clay, glaze, 2 kiln firings, tools and insurance)
- Students may choose a dip glaze color for the instructor to glaze for them or they may register for an additional glaze session.  
- Optional:  $10 one-hour work on your own parent-supervised glaze session on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon during regular studio hours prior to August 18th. By appointment only.  (Your child may choose to glaze one or both pieces of pottery.  Depending on how quickly or slowly your child works, it may take two hours to glaze both pieces.)
- Students will pick up their glazed and fired pottery 4 to 5 weeks after class.

Lagoon Life - Pottery Summer Camp for Kids
- Ages 7 to 16
- 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
- Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17
- We are fortunate to live along the Indian River Lagoon, one of our country’s most unique estuaries.  Starting with a ball of fresh clay, participants will create their own Lagoon Life using hand-building pottery techniques such as pinch, coil, slab and sculpture. We will create a fish one day and a sea turtle the next day.  Pottery will be glazed with lab-certified lead-free, non-toxic glazes by our staff after the pieces have been dried and then bisque fired.
- $60 (includes both days of instruction, clay, glaze, 2 kiln firings, tools and insurance)
- Students may choose a dip glaze color for the instructor to glaze for them or they may register for an additional glaze session.

Off the Wall - Pottery Wall Art Summer Camp for Kids
- Ages 7 to 16
- 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
- Wednesday, July 30 and Thursday, July 31
- We are fortunate to live along the Indian River Lagoon, one of our country’s most unique estuaries.  Starting with a ball of fresh clay, participants will create their own pottery wall art using hand-building pottery techniques such as slab, texturing and sculpture. We will create a wall pocket one day and a Wild Kids self portrait the next day.  Pottery will be glazed with lab-certified lead-free, non-toxic glazes by our staff after the pieces have been dried and then bisque fired.*
- $60 (includes both days of instruction, clay, glaze, 2 kiln firings, tools and insurance)

Making Faces - Pottery Summer Camp for Kids

- Wednesday, August 6 and Thursday, August 7
- Starting with a ball of fresh clay, participants will create their own pottery cup and pinch bowl and learn how to sculpt faces onto them. The sillier, the better! Pottery will be glazed with certified lead-free, non-toxic glazes and kiln fired so that all pottery will be food, dishwasher and microwave safe.
- $75 (includes both days of instruction, clay, glaze, 2 kiln firings, tools and insurance)
- Students may choose a dip glaze color for the instructor to glaze for them or they may register for an additional glaze session.

2 Hour Play in the Clay Pottery Class
You choose your class day and time, whatever suits your schedule. By appointment. You choose the project. Hand-building pottery projects will yield a cup, mug, platter, or wall hanging first time, every time. Soft clay slabs are formed and decorated into the desired shape using hand-building pottery techniques such as slab, coil, molding and sculpture.
