Council of Martin County presents “Ten Women in Art: Personal Baggage” featuring the artwork of: Becky Beerensson, Marilyn Cook, Nancy Dillen, Lydia Nelson Friedland, Carol Garutti, Grace Leal, Susan Martin, Ellen Pavlakos, Nancy Seib, and Jean Thomas.   The show is located at the Court House Cultural Center Galleries, 80 East Ocean Boulevard, Downtown Stuart.

Ten Women in Art are celebrating 30 years as an organization, having had their first exhibit in 1984. Nancy Dillen, Ellen Pavlakos, and Susan Martin are founding members, so the membership has changed through the years. “We've met some wonderful women artists during those thirty years. We've celebrated successes and shared tragedies, both personal and professional. We enjoy one another's company so much that we often find it difficult to discuss the business of the group rather than art. There is a bond, a common passion that unites us, as corny as that sounds. And producing art is a solitary activity so we welcome the shared time together,” stated founding member, Susan Martin.

The exhibit reflects ten individual approaches to life’s experiences. During the Opening Night Reception, a sculpture by Ellen Pavalakos was sold to a collector from New York. The collector was returning home the next day and wanted to take it with her. In an unprecedented move and with the cooperation of the Courthouse Cultural Art Center staff, the work was packaged and sent with the delighted buyer.

The Ten Women in Art exhibition runs through April 11, 2014. Court House Cultural Center Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Saturday, 11 am – 2:00 pm. Gallery hours during ArtsFest are Saturday, March 15, 10 am – 4 pm, and Sunday, March 16, 10 am – 4 pm.
