MMB Collaborates with Strawbridge Art League for Night of Music and Art

Melbourne Municipal Band Goes Hollywood with `Night at the Movies` Concert and Art Show February 19 and 20

MELBOURNE, FL, January 16, 2014 – The Melbourne Municipal Band (MMB) kicks off 2014 with a cultural event that features songs from the silver screen and a movie-related art show during two performances on February 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium, 625 E. Hibiscus Blvd. There is no charge for admission and tickets are not required.

Musical selections for "Night at the Movies" will include the 20th Century Fox fanfare, The Entertainer, Mission Impossible, The Muppet Show, and an alto sax solo called Romance, from The Gadfly, featuring Frank Tuckweiler. Dr. Jamie Younkin, assistant professor at FIT, will be the guest conductor for Hollywood Milestones, a medley that spans 25 years of film music. FIT’s Jazz Band will provide pre-show entertainment.

Hollywood-related works of art and actual movie props from the Strawbridge Art League will be on-hand for viewing and purchase in the west wing of the auditorium.  Meet and greet with the artists beginning at 6:30 p.m., during intermission, and after the concert. Concertgoers will have the chance to vote on their favorite artwork, and the artist selected will receive a $100 prize the second night of the concerts.

The Strawbridge Art League will donate a piece of art to be raffled off the first night of the concert, with proceeds going to MMB. In addition, 10 percent of any artwork sold at the concerts will go to the band.

“We are very excited to present this program, which takes us on a visual and musical journey through the most popular and memorable film tunes of today and yesterday,” said Conductor Staci Cleveland. “I encourage everyone to attend this event, which appeals to all ages, and to meet the wonderful local artists of the Strawbridge Art League.”
