Art and Antique Studio announces the featured artist for January 2014
Linda Neal: watercolor and silhouette artist
The opening of this show will be Friday, January 3 during the EGAD Art Walk from 5:30 till 8:30. Come by and meet Linda and see her beautiful work and watch her cutting silhouettes and then stroll through the Gallery to view the works of the other Gallery members. While you are there, visit the Courtyard Studio, our classroom area and studio home to several other artists. Drinks and light refreshments will be served. This opening reception is free and open to the public.
Linda's show will highlight her watercolor paintings of Eau Gallie area scenes as well as her work of silhouettes. In keeping with the theme, the artist will also be cutting silhouettes comfortably seated in her favorite rocker which is depicted in "Friends Forever," one of several nostalgic watercolors on display. The show will also include dramatic Florida waterscapes which combine her paper cutting (scherenschnitte) with watercolor.
Linda has been cutting silhouettes since 1990 and is considered one of the premier silhouette artists in the country. The profile portraits take 2-3 minutes while a person poses on a stool and costs $15 for the original cut and $5 for duplicate cuts. The finished profile in black is then mounted on a 5" X 7" card with a name and date, ready for framing. Profile photos can be e-mailed to her, but it is more fun to watch her quickly snip a likeness. Over the years, she has cut thousands of silhouettes at shows, churches, schools, assisted living facilities, family reunions, private parties, and most recently at a wedding reception in St. Augustine.
