In this 2-day ceramic workshop, Cheryl Tall will show how to apply her sculpture techniques to create mythical animals, referencing images from medieval bestiaries like gargoyles and guardians, to animals such as the phoenix, the unicorn, the mermaid, the sphinx, the centaur, and the dragon, which express the symbols of immortality, hope, fear and wonder. The workshop will include a gallery tour and discussion about the use of animal imagery in social commentary through the ages.
The Foosaner Art Museum presents this program in conjunction with the exhibition InCiteful Clay, on view at the Foosaner Art Museum, January 25, 2014 - March 16, 2014. Mrs. Tall's sculpture, "Debt Monster", is included in the exhibition.
