“Animal Fairy Tales, Fables, Fact Or Fiction”

Melbourne artist, Nancy Dillen, will have one of her magically realistic paintings, Ottersea included in a juried exhibit “Animal Fairy Tales, Fables, Fact or Fiction” during the month of December at the Las Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach, California.

The show’s theme explores a wide range of animal depictions in art. In the gallery’s call for art they described their interest as follows:

Throughout the history of the world in cultures near and far, animals have played a huge part in the world of art.

From the beginning of time when man first scrawled a buffalo on cave walls to the present time; animals are characterized and depicted in stories, cartoons and movies. The rich history of animals represented in mythologies and folktales is endless. These animals awaken our creative spirit and feed our imagination. From the years of the zodiac to the spirits of totem poles animals and animal icons play a huge part in our everyday life.

Thirty-five artists’ works were selected for this whimsical show. Dillen’s oil painting, Ottersea is one of 50 displayed out of 350 submitted entries. Works include a variety of 2-dimensional media ranging from oil, acrylic, and watercolor, gouache paintings, prints, and colored pencil.

Las Laguna Gallery is located at 815 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach, CA. The opening reception is Thursday December 5th and the works will be displayed until December 28th. The reception will be from 6:30-10pm. The public is invited to attend.

Prior to the opening a preview of the accepted work can be seen at Las Laguna’s website and looking at their upcoming exhibit:
