COLLAGE ARTIST DEREK GORES COMMISSIONED to design cover art for iconic 90s group, tlc

Gores Creates Collage for Anniversary Album Titled “20”

Melbourne, FL—Melbourne, Florida based artist Derek Gores was commissioned to create the cover art for TLC, one of the most iconic and best selling female '90s musical groups, who is celebrating their 20-plus year anniversary with a new album titled 20, set to release at the same time as a biopic about the group for VH1 titled "CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story."  This is the first full album the group has done since the death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in 2002.  Gores used song lyrics, concert tickets, show posters, TLC fan photos, autographs and other elements from the band's career to create the collage.

Gores has gained national attention for his “torn paper collage” works on canvas, recycling magazines, labels, data, and assorted found analog and digital materials to create imaginative design.  Most recently, he was the official artist for the 2013 Kentucky Derby.  Additional commissions this year include collages for the new San Francisco 49ers stadium, the Minnesota Vikings, the Fleet Center in Boston for the Boston Celtics, Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, and Eric Garcetti, the newly elected mayor of Los Angeles.  Locally, Gores is the official artist of the 2014 Windsor Charity Polo Cup in Vero Beach and previously the Orlando Magic and the City of Orlando commissioned six large original pieces by Gores for the Amway Center.

His fine art canvases are exhibited by galleries in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Sydney, Cologne, Miami, and Santa Fe.  His design clients include Dwell Magazine, Lincoln Motor Co., ESPN, Lenny Kravitz, Lucasfilm, Kings of Leon, U2, Adidas, Madonna, Harley Davidson.

A Rhode Island School of Design graduate, Gores lives and works in Melbourne surrounded by the intellect and culture of the Space Coast. Gores was honored to have his work selected for the Manifest Hope DC exhibit coinciding with the Presidential Inauguration in 2009, and in a 2010 exhibition in London he was named "One of the 40 important artists of the New Contemporary Movement."
