Says Gores, "When schools look to save money by cutting programs, art is usually at the top of the list. Art teachers deal with diminishing resources and often spend their own money in their classroom. Art is essential. Every day of the school year, teachers spark the young minds of our kids. Art, of course, fosters creative thinking, which our kids will need no matter the career path they take later. Brevard's art teachers take on that vital responsibility, so the least I can do is give back a bit of the spark by hosting a creative workshop this Summer."
To provide the full experience for the teachers, a professional art show will be held at EGAD Art Lab for the public to appreciate the teachers' art. Date to be announced soon. Information will be on Derek’s Facebook page for this event https://www.facebook.com/
In his collage portraits, Derek Gores recycles magazines, photographs, maps, data, and assorted found materials to create the works on canvas with a fearless sense of play. Gores’ fine art is exhibited in national and international art galleries and special commissions throughout a variety of professional sports arenas, hotels and private collections. Derek was recently the official artist of the 139th Kentucky Derby.
