Classes at the Foosaner


Great new classes coming up at the Foosaner.

Clay Heads Mini-Term


The Renee Foosaner Education Center presents Clay Heads Mini-Term, a 3-class workshop that is part of the Foosaner’s Summer Session.

Instructor Elaine Rowgo will lead students as they create, finish and glaze hollow clay portraits, gently sculpting facial features from the inside out.  Rowgo is an instructor at the Renee Foosaner Education Center and  has a bachelor’s of fine arts degree in painting from Carnegie-Mellon University.  She teaches the popular Creative Play in Clay at the Education Center, continuing her 30-year career as a pottery instructor.

Clay Heads Mini-Term is a great way to become acquainted with the Renee Foosaner Education Center, or for continuing students.  Materials, tools, glazing and firing of finished piece included in the cost of the workshop.  Spend a few relaxing evenings in May exploring your creative self at the Renee Foosaner Education Center.

Plates and Platters on the Potter’s Wheel

The Renee Foosaner Education Center presents Plates and Platters on the Potter’s Wheel, part of the Foosaner’s Summer Session.  In this 2-part class students will make wheel-thrown forms that provide surfaces upon which foods may be displayed and/or served. These flat forms are ideal for serving and displaying food in special ways. After forming the serving vessels, students will explore different slipping and texturing techniques for embellishment. Following bisque firing, glaze techniques and execution will be explored. Prior experience on the wheel is required for this class.   Bobbie McMillan has a B.F.A. in ceramics with a minor in art history from the University of Houston and has graduate courses from Haliburtion School of Fine Arts in Ontario, Canada, California State University, and Walden University.

 Summer Series - Drawing I

Serhat Tanyolacar

6 week course. Drawing I presents a strong introduction to basic drawing concepts. It is designed for both experienced art students who want to develop portfolios and beginners who have little or no previous experience in art and want to develop aesthetic understanding and drawing skills.

Projects are based on subjects such as the human figure, still life and landscape and may incorporate media such as charcoal, graphite, ink, and pencil.
