Barbara May Smythers April Exhibit at Eau Gallie Public Library

It was after graduating from Duke University and while teaching Latin in the Virginia public school system that Smythers began to pursue her real passion...art.  She enjoys painting the Florida scenes she has come to know and love and also does portraits.  She works in oil, watercolor, pastels and mixed media and has studied with such nationally known teachers as John Brady, Florence Thomas, Ray Yoder and Charles McCurry of the Ringling School of Art.  In the summer of 1978 she studied painting and drawing at the Slade School of Art in London.  Barbara is a signature member of the American Impressionist Society and has received numerous awards.

"In the business of everyday life, logic often dominates.  I believe that arts should hint at the mystery that underpins all life.  It should speak the language of the heart.  To paint is to co-create with God."

Barbara May Smythers exhibits her art during the month of April on the walls of Eau Gallie Library, 1521 Pineapple Avenue in Melbourne.  Hours are Monday 12-8 pm, Tuesday 9-5 pm, Wednesday 9-8 pm, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 9-5 pm, closed Sunday.  Artwork is for sale through the artist.  For more information e-mail bsmythers@cfl.rr.com or call 321-773-6936.
