Pastel Artist Deb Pettigrew Featured Artist for January at the Art Gallery of Viera
Deb Pettigrew’s most recent work is featured at the Art Gallery of Viera for the month of January. The Art Gallery of Viera is located at 2261 Town Center Avenue, Suite 111, Viera. Deb is a passionate pastel painter and teacher with a wide spectrum of work created with different styles and subject matter. She paints animals in a realistic style but also uses an abstract style by studying certain aspects of nature, such as rock surfaces.
Deb prefers pastels for many reasons. She likes the brilliant colors and the ease of blending and layering to achieve certain textures, colors, and forms. She also finds the medium very forgiving. Pastels do not require a tool such as a pencil or a paintbrush to achieve an image. Instead, the pastel is the tool and there is nothing between the artist and the art. Equally passionate about teaching, Deb loves to see her students learning to master the medium and continuing to evolve as artists.
Deb Pettigrew earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Central Oklahoma. She worked as a graphic artist and advertising agency art director in her early professional career. Currently, Deb is a member of the Art Gallery of Viera, the Brevard Cultural Alliance, the Strawbridge Art League and the Central Brevard Art Association. She also teaches pastel painting classes at the Art Gallery of Viera and is available for people and pet portrait commissions.
