Debi Pettigrew is a passionate painter with a wide spectrum of work, using realistic and abstract styles. She loves to paint animals by capturing the life energy, which can be appreciated in the eyes and soulful expression of the animals she paints. Debi is also inspired by nature when creating her abstract paintings by studying nature, such as the surfaces of rocks.
She prefers pastels for many reasons. She likes the brilliant colors and the ease of blending and layering to achieve certain textures, colors, and forms. Also, she likes the fact that you don't need a tool such as a pencil or a paintbrush to achieve an image. Instead, the pastel is the tool and there is nothing between the artist and the art. Equally passionate about teaching, Debi loves to watch her students learn how to master the medium and continue to evolve as artists.
Debi Pettigrew earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Central Oklahoma. She worked as a graphic artist and advertising agency art director in her early professional career. Currently, Debi is a member of the Art Gallery of Viera, the Brevard Cultural Alliance, the Strawbridge Art League and the Central Brevard Art Association. She also teaches pastel painting classes at the Art Gallery of Viera and is available for pet portrait commissions.
