The Foosaner Art Museum Guild presents Jon Houghton, one of the most accomplished portrait artists in the country today, at its final Museum Monday program of the season on Monday, May 21 at 10 A.M. in the museum's Harris Auditorium.
Jon's notable commissions include leaders in the business, medical, educational, law, political and private communities. His work is included in many collections both here in the U.S. and abroad, including those of local entities Harris Corporation, TRW, the Foosaner Art Museum, Holmes Regional Medical Center and Health First.
An artist from early childhood and a firm believer in the apprenticeship system, Jon commits much of his time to individually training gifted students. Earlier this spring, he led a group of eight local artists in a three-day intermediate level portrait workshop with oils as the preferred medium. His emphasis for the lessons was to develop the ability to quickly capture a likeness.
Jon is a Studio Art graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he studied with master lithographer Robert Nelson. His post graduate work includes a fellowship with internationally known artist Philip Pearlstein, and studies with national academicians Daniel Greene and watercolorist Charles Reid.
Jon is the recipient of the Best of Show award for the 2009 Portrait Society of Atlanta Exhibition, and the founding president of the Brevard Watercolor Society. Jon maintains studios in Melbourne, FL and Atlanta, GA and is represented by agencies in New York City and Tampa, Florida.
Museum Monday programs are free and open to the public, with light refreshments served. For additional information call 242-0737. The Foosaner Art Museum and adjacent Harris Auditorium are located at 1463 Highland Avenue in the Eau Gallie Arts District, Melbourne, FL.
