Second Saturday at the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery

Second Saturday:

May 11, 2012               2:00 to 3:30 pm at the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery

Judith Copeland

Into the Woods

In this month's Second Saturday presentation, Judith will discuss what goes into making a wood sculpture.

Judith states that  "producing a wood sculpture is a long draw-out process, requiring lots of patience and wo-manual labor.  I guess I am obsessed, because I can't be long without wanting ( needing ) to carve. I can usually only work for an hour or two a day, but when I am doing it , I am totally mesmerized by the tap, tap, tap of the chisel.

"I would like to give a glimpse into my technique by showing my tools, some pictures and a work in progress. The actual process is so slow and wood-chip producing, I won't be able to demonstrate fully without putting everyone to sleep, but I will try to show how the shape comes about and answer any questions people may have."
