Encaustic (hot wax) painting is a medium introduced by the ancient Greeks and often used by contemporary masters. Encaustic is a very permanent medium, which can result in exquisite, luminous painting effects. This intensive course introduces you to encaustic. Demonstrations are followed by hands-on studio practice. Learn about safety, suitable ground supports, encaustic materials, tools for surface incising, stencils, stains, masking tapes, transfers, waxy buildup, scraping and more. Tuition covers encaustic materials and supports.
Please bring a notebook, apron and 6 empty, cleaned, small, pineapple juice cans and any tools you might have for incising and imprinting. Course is suitable for beginning and intermediate painters.
