WITH LOCAL ARTIST “BONNIE CARTER
Alice’s adventures “Down the Rabbit Hole” have nothing over Bonnie Carter’s daring art adventures/exploration as depicted in her January exhibition at Art and Antique Gallery, 1419 Highland Avenue in the “EGAD” Eau Gallie Art District beginning January 6, 2012.
Alice and her Wonderland have inspired or influenced many works of art and entertainment over the years and Bonnie has taken her art to a new form with collage, watercolor, acrylic and more with “Down the Rabbit Hole”.
In 2006, Bonnie took a watercolor painting class at her local library and fell in love with its fluidity and transparency. As an emerging watercolor artist, she was published in "Artist's Magazine", winning third place in the student division with her painting of "Lori's Luscious Pears". Since then she has won numerous awards in local shows. She paints almost daily in her home studio and joins six other women (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Paint Brushes) once a week.
All artists get a little frustrated with their medium and begin to look beyond it and other forms of creativity. Bonnie picked up a book by a well-known acrylic abstract artist and immediately became interested and excited by this new medium. She started experimenting with acrylics to produce heavily textured impressionistic paintings as well as interesting collage pieces using digital pictures, old magazine pages, fabric, corrugated cardboard and various ephemera.
"Every day I feel like I've fallen down a RABBIT HOLE! Like Alice, everything feels "curiouser and curiouser" as I stumble my way through experimenting with acrylics and collage. My new direction into mixed media and collage is so exciting and, hopefully, the viewer will feel some of this excitement, as well."
Bonnie is a member of Art and Antique Studio Gallery in the Eau Gallie Art District (EGAD), as well as several art associations in Florida including the Florida Watercolor Association, the Brevard Cultural Alliance, Brevard Watercolor Society, the National Collage Society and the International Society of Assemblage and Collage Artists. Besides painting, her interests are traveling with her husband, reading, and movies.
The public is invited to join them to just see what is “DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE”
